Hello Kitty recently celebrated her 50th anniversary. This ongoing exhibition was a celebration of Hello Kitty throughout the years and how she has stayed the same, yet adapted to the everchanging styles of society. The gallery made an appearance in Tokyo previously, but is now housed in Kyoto at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art until December 7th 2025.
From nostalgic merchandise to original artworks, we can see the complete world of Hello Kitty and how she because such a world wide icon. Yui and I had a wonderful time exploring all the sections of this gallery.
The first section of the exhibition was a gallery of Hello Kitty merchandise throughout the years, which also included the very first Kitty plush!
The second portion included how Hello Kitty has evolved to match the changing styles over the years, as well as anniversary artworks from 1st to 50th. One interesting point was the Hello Kitty concept, which included 4 key factors as to why Hello Kitty has been a world wide icon:
Adapting to changes in design and trends throughout the years
No mouth, adapting to your mood
Iconic bow you'll always be able to recognize
Simple eyes, always looking at you
It was really interesting to read about these key points and its hopefully something I can learn to incorporate moving forward with GGG!
Moving along into the third portion of the exhibit, we see a gallery of original artworks done by various artists, who share what Hello Kitty means to them. Perhaps just a cute character they love, or a character with deeper meaning.

A wall of historical Japanese paintings that included Hello Kitty in them!
The last portion of the exhibit included a collaboration section, highlighting collaborations with other characters and brands. There was also 3 cute photo spots, immersing you into Hello Kitty merchandise!
I'm really glad I got to see this exhibit. For me, Hello Kitty has always been a part of my life!! Hello Kitty purse, wallet, clothing, plush, trinkets, keychains, ect.! As I grow, she is still a part of my life and will always be! Maybe that's where my love of bows came from!!! Until next time . . .
