FUTURE TRAIN - Interactive Dining Experience in Kyoto - October 25th 2025

Sebastian Masuda's newest interactive dining experience, located nearby Kyoto station has started its operations into the FUTURE! You can choose from a regular dining experience to the interactive 7 course experience! Finally I have a chance to record my experience! You may know Sebastian Masuda's previous dining experience works, which include the iconic KAWAII MONSTER CAFE (which closed its doors in Harajuku during covid and will be transforming into something new in 2026) and Tokyodelic (previously Sushidelic) in New York City.

The restaurant itself is an old train car, which has been converted into a full functioning restaurant. Complete with a ticket counter, gift shop, bar area, patio seating area, private dining area, regular dining area, and FUTURE TRAIN experience~!

FUTURE IMAGINATION COURSE

This experience brings you outside to the train platform, boarding into the train's briefing room, then into the FUTURE! After travelling into the future, you make your way to the 3rd train car to enjoy your dining experience. During the ride to the future, I had the biggest smile on my face!! I didn't stop smiling, not even for a moment!! I was so entranced in the moment, truly taking in all the sounds, small details, and the feeling of joy it gave me. A 100% full body experience for me!

I have never experienced multi-course/fine dining, so this was a real treat for me! And in perfect company too! The food was so delicious and in between each serving, the birdy girl would talk to everyone, while also announcing what dish was coming up next. Conductor Birdie also came around a few times to check in on everyone! As each dish was presented to you, a card followed along with it, explaining the title and what it included. All the food was absolutely delicious and I felt full after the meal was done! I had also separately ordered a Sweet Potato and White Chocolate Milkshake that was very tasty!

Out of all the dishes, I really enjoyed Sugarland, which was a small churro pastry with eggplant and baby greens. I really enjoyed the flavour it packed, even though it was mini sized. I definitely want to return here to try all their other regular menu offerings, and would 100% do the FUTURE IMAGINATION Course again!! If you are making plans to travel to Kyoto, be sure to make a stop at the FUTURE TRAIN!

**COMING IN 2026**

In February of 2026, KAWAII MONSTER LAND will open its doors in Takeshita Dori!

After the closing of Kawaii Monster Cafe in Harajuku, many people were sad to see the icon cafe disappear. It was a very popular spots for fans of kawaii culture, Sebastian's work, and general tourists.

WHAT IS KAWAII MONSTER LAND?

KAWAII MONSTER LAND is a “KAWAII amusement park” brand and a playground for monsters produced by artist Sebastian Masuda. The colorful locale on Takeshita-dori Avenue in Harajuku will feature a series of sweet-shaped monster rides, photogenic food and games, and live monster girl shows.
